Become a Community Researcher, Drive Positive Change in Philly Schools

Are you passionate about improving education for the children and youth of Philadelphia? Do you want to play a vital role in addressing the educational inequities that affect our schools? We invite you to join the Philadelphia Education Data Collective as a community researcher!

What Is the Philadelphia Education Data Collective?

The Philadelphia Education Data Collective is an initiative led by Research for Action (RFA), an education research organization dedicated to advancing racial and social justice in education. We are working with community members to use data to drive positive change in Philadelphia schools. By joining us, you will have the opportunity to collect and analyze data that reflects your lived experiences and the needs of our community.

Why Get Involved?

This is not just a research project; it’s a chance to make a real difference. As a community researcher, you will:

  • Identify and address educational issues that matter to you and your family.
  • Participate in hands-on training in research and data analysis, guided by professional researchers.
  • Receive a stipend of $1,300 for your valuable contributions.

What Commitment Is Required?

We are looking for dedicated individuals who can commit to participating in training sessions from October 2024 to October 2025. This includes:

  • Attending 1 or 2 training sessions each month, which will consist of both in-person (2 hours) and virtual (90 minutes) meetings.
  • Dedicating 1 to 2 hours of work between sessions, such as completing readings or preparing for discussions.
  • Being ready to take action to improve education for Philadelphia youth.

How to Get Involved?

We encourage you to attend one of our informational webinars via Zoom on September 25 or 26 at 7 PM. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the project and how you can contribute.

If you’re interested in joining us, please complete our brief application form. If you know others who might be interested in joining us, please share this informational flyer with them to help us get the word out.

For more information, feel free to reach out to me, Saxon Nelson, Director of Community Engagement at RFA, at snelson@researchforaction.org or call 267-738-9945.

Together, we can shift the power of data into the hands of our community and work toward a brighter future for our children. I can’t wait to see you there.
