For the past several years, RFA has conducted a national, multi-site examination of the implementation and effectiveness of teacher-developed formative assessment tools aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, RFA has worked with a team of organizations to conduct an unusually comprehensive examination of these efforts. Our work closely examines how teachers respond to and use the tools; and identifies the contexts and conditions that lead to sustainability and scale-up of the tools. We have worked closely with a consortium of research partners which includes WestEd, the UCLA Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST), Measured Progress, Center for Assessment, and the Center for Assessment and Learning (SCALE) at Stanford University.
