This work is intended to assist school communities in looking at research and in carrying out their own ‘home-grown’ research projects as a school improvement tool. It begins with materials and understandings drawn from two previous studies (The Five School Study, and Making Children Larger…) to show research that has dealt with the words and voices of students and educators to understand the experiences within the cultural field of the school. Finally, the article provides some insight as to how research can be an instructive tool for identifying questions and proposing change.
